The Bernardine at Loretto is well-equipped to meet the growing needs of residents through the many benefits of our continuum of care. We welcome those into our community who may find that they are in need of more supportive services in a caring, safe, and friendly environment. At The Bernardine, we consistently strive to improve the quality of life for older adults in Central New York and look forward to your visit one day soon.
- Howard Jenkins, The Bernardine Administrator
The Bernardine offers senior living in spacious apartment settings. The Bernardine now features 50 newly renovated apartments specifically designed for those with physical challenges. Residents can choose studio apartments, which feature a separate alcove sleeping area, or larger, one bedroom apartments.
Each apartment includes a kitchen, living-dining room, bedroom or sleeping area, and bathroom. Residents furnish their apartments with their own furniture, photos, and personal belongings, which helps to personalize each apartment. Furniture may also be available for residents with limited resources.
The “patio,” as it’s fondly referred to by our residents, is an outdoor highlight of The Bernardine, and includes patio furniture chosen specifically to accommodate the physical needs of older adults, shuffleboard courts, barbeque grills, and grounds beautifully landscaped with flowers.
The Bernardine’s busy schedule of activities includes a community-wide Halloween Party, numerous cookouts, an ever-popular New Year’s Eve Ball, a weekly Happy Hour, and live musical entertainment.
The Bernardine Family Picnic
The Bernardine is located at 417 Churchill Avenue in Syracuse, New York, on the periphery of Loretto’s main campus. The Bernardine has convenient access to and from New York State Routes 81 and 481 North and South. A shopping plaza is close by for the convenience of residents.
Those participating in available meal programs are provided with balanced meals overseen by Loretto nutritionists. The Bernardine also presents a special meal each month based on suggestions or requests from our residents. For example, The Bernardine recently presented a German-themed meal, complete with bratwurst, knockwurst, German potato salad and a selection of German beers. Our daily menus feature a variety of international cuisines, ranging from Italian or Asian to classic, old-fashioned American.
